April's Back
TOM WATSON
“My journey into the world of photography started at the age of six with
a firecracker and a bottle. Ever since then I’ve been seeing with monocular vision … just like a camera does. I was born in the ‘50’s in Staten Island, New York, one of nine children.
Perhaps it was the need to prove that I could see as well as, or better than, everyone else that led me to explore photography.
I excelled at the School of Visual Arts and was offered a solo show at the prestigious Camera Club of New York, established in 1884 by Alfred Stieglitz. It was the first gallery dedicated to photography as an art form. Other doors opened up for me while still in school. My thesis instructor, renowned fashion photographer James Moore, offered me a position as his assistant, thus introducing me to the world of fashion where I’ve since enjoyed 40 years of photographing beautiful and interesting people in wonderful garments in spectacular places. I’ve got more than 50 fashion magazine covers to my name, among them ELLE, VANITY FAIR, GLAMOUR and HARPER’S BAZAAR. I exhibited a body of work at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in the Louvre Museum in Paris which reflect on my first trip to Japan. More recently I had a solo show in a gallery in Paris. The show was entitled FLASHBACK. It gave me reason to revisit many of my best fashion assignments from the late ’90’s and early 2000’s, all of which I shot with flash outdoors. Just this year I presented a more recent body of work in a prestigious gallery in Uzès. The solo show was entitled “miniature”.
I’ve had the pleasure of working with many major brands for their worldwide advertising campaigns, among them: Cerruti, ClubMed, Trussardi, Canon Camera, Desigual, and others”.
When you purchase a piece, and afterwards do not want it, we will work with you to resell the piece on consignment through the gallery. Outright returns at the end of an exhibition, or at any other time, are just not possible, mainly because by then the Artist will have been paid by us for the sale.
